The problem of travelling, ordered motion and related transportation goes back to long-ago times. It has been appearing in changing forms since then. Its aspects were called in different ways during the centuries in the past. Together with the following progress the nature of navigation was also becoming more Abstract. How is it nowadays? Looking at the navigation problem submitted by Ernst Zermelo (1871 - 1953) we propose to generalize it. Analysis of the evaluation of the long standing problem goes through historical and present concepts based on the practical applications as well as the modern theories. Conclusions concern the view at the present trends and obtained results forming the ideas of nearest future with reference to maritime education.
