MIR - AMSMA Training Ship

"VIRTUS, FIDES, HONOR, FORTITUDO" - these words are inscribed into the Coat of Arms of the Academy and are confirmed by the generations of seafarers, who had kept a track in the history of Russian State.

Distinguishing feature of the modern maritime Education and Training is the requirement to follow international conventions and national educational standard. The Academy is proud, that educational level and qualification of its graduates are highly rated not only in Russia but worldwide. The training of personnel for sea transport is offered according to the State educational standards in conformity with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 78, as amended by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Academy is one of the largest centers of maritime science where high scientific potential is concentrated: 50 doctors of sciences and professors, 160 candidates of sciences (PhD). Most of them are graduates from the Academy and have the seagoing experience on ships. The pride of the Academy is the scientific schools created by the famous professors. Many generations of Russian scientists and also highly qualified personnel from Poland, Germany, Bulgaria, Cuba, China, Viet-Nam, North Korea, Syria and Iran have passed through the Dissertation Boards, Doctorate and Post-Graduate Department of the Academy.

There are seven faculties in Academy - Navigation, International Transport Management, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Radio Engineering, Arctic and Naval. Besides these faculties there are Extra-Mural (correspondence) and Special faculties (the latter trains personnel for the nuclear fleet).

Academy is the first and the only higher MET institution in Russia which trains engineers for ships having nuclear power plants. Until now it is the only higher MET institution which provides targeted training of personnel to serve the Northern Sea Route. The Academy provides traditional education and wide range of post-graduate training and runs retraining courses.

More than 100 programs of additional and advanced training are offered for different categories of seafarers.

The programs of the courses are designed in compliance with the IMO Conventions and Resolutions.

There are preparatory courses for those who are going to study at the Academy and to become seafarer.

Maritime Consulting Center offers technical expertise, advice on technical projects and scientific research in the field of sea transport.

The Academy's pride is the sail training ship "MIR", the winner of prestigious international regattas.
