Overview:

The school was founded in 1988 in the body of the Dokuz Eylül University as the first higher education school in Turkey concerning maritime business. The main objective of the School is to assist the maritime interests of the country and raise the competitive advantage of Turkish shipping by providing qualified manpower to Turkish maritime industry. The school where medium of instruction is English, aims to raise graduates with self-efficacy, self confidence, self- appraisal who will also be provided with critical thinking and qualities of effective leadership.

The school has three departments: the Department of Maritime Business Administration, the Deck Department, and the Marine Engineering Department. The school is granted the ISO 9000:2000 Quality Management System Certificate since 2001.The school has also adopted the student-centered, Problem-Based Learning through which students take active responsibility for their learning.

Under the auspices of Institute of Social Sciences School of Graduate Studies, in "Maritime Administration" field MBA and PhD programs are offered and in "Logistics and Maritime Transport" field MBA and in "Maritime Security, Safety and Environmental Management" field MSc is offered.

Updates:

As a fruitful result of the distinguished cooperation reached by Dokuz Eylül University School of Maritime Business and Management (SMBM), LODER (Logistics Association of Turkey) and Cass Business School City University, International Logistics Congress 2004, will be held in Izmir on December 2-3, 2004 and will cover the most recent developments in logistics and supply chain management.

"International Congress on Coastal and Marine Tourism", CMT 2005 will be organized by Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Business, Dokuz Eylül University School of Maritime Business and Management and Oregon State University in Izmir Turkey in November 15-18, 2005.
