Dalian Maritime University (DMU)

Overview:

Dalian Maritime University (DMU) is the only key maritime institution under the Ministry of Communications, People's Republic of China. The university is recognized internationally as a center of excellent maritime education and training.

DMU has a rich history of development, which can trace back to the Shipping Affairs Department of Shanghai Industrial Institute (also named the South Sea Public School), set up in 1909. In 1983 the Asia-pacific Region Maritime Training Center was established by the UNDP and IMO, and in 1985, the Dalian Branch of the World Maritime University was opened here. In 1998, DMU passed the Quality System Accreditation of China's National Harbor Superintendence and DNV. DMU is now a leader among the higher learning institutions of navigation worldwide as to the scale and stale and status of academic studies and research.

Within its 12 colleges and 4 departments, DMU presently has 1 post-doctoral program, 9 programs at the doctoral level, 25 master courses and 25 undergraduate courses. The university's administrative staff numbers approximately 2,300, and the annual enrollment of students over the past three years has averaged 3,540 per year, including 70 or so overseas students. The total number of enrolled full-time students now stands at nearly 15,000.

Updates:

From Sept. 23rd to 24th, our university successfully hosted the First International Conference on Logistics Strategy for Ports (ICLSP) in collaboration with ITMMA, University of Antwerp. Many domestic leaders and distinguished foreign guests as well as more than 400 delegates from enterprises, organizations and institutes from about 12 countries attended this conference. The conference has made a great contribution to the development of logistics strategy for ports both at home and abroad.

From Oct. 11th to 13th, the Third Asia Maritime and Fisheries Universities Forum was held in our university. Presidents and Professors of 14 universities from China, Korea, Japan, Russia, Vietnam and other Asia countries and regions attended this forum and discussed many issues in the related areas of maritime education and training.
