The history of the Maritime State University named after admiral G I. Nevelskoy, the oldest institution of the maritime professional education in Vladivostok, started in 1890 when Alexander Nautical Classes were set up.
The MSU has been training specialists in compliance with the International Conventions requirements and this allows the University graduates to be employed in the world shipping industry labor market.
The number of specialties and subject fields in training specialists of different levels has increased from 5 to more than 60: establishing the universities of maritime and technical profile was followed by setting up the Institutes of Humanities. The process of education and training cadets and students is successfully combined with their upbringing.
The Maritime State University has all the necessary facilities and resources to arrange a proper teaching process. There are 5 academic buildings, a training and technological center, 46 laboratories, 3 reading halls which seat up to 220 people, a library that houses a collection of 300,000 volumes, 11 professional simulators, which simulate all ship's facilities, and a planetarium

Summer is the time of practical training not only in Russian higher education institutions, but also abroad. In this connection ships carrying trainees of marine education institutions of Japan, Korea and China call at Vladivostok. Those voyages are shipboard training for them, which include visiting marine higher education institutions of Vladivostok.
In June the Maritime State University received four groups of cadets from the Republic of Korea. Three of them represented the Marine Research School from Pohang town. Our education institutions have been maintaining mutual relations for a number of years, and two years back an agreement of cooperation was signed. The Marine Research School is the highest stage of secondary education, like our Marine College.
The future Korean sailors visited the MSU simulator center with interest. They were also curious about exhibits of the University Museum.
In late June another big group of trainees from South Korea visited the MSU. They were from the Kunsan State Marine College. Officially they were guests of the Far Eastern State Technical Fishery University. They also familiarized themselves with the MSU simulators and visited the MSU Museum. They also had a lesson of Russian at the Institute of International Education within the structure of the MSU International Service.

When the sailing training ship "Nadezhda" made her round-the-world voyage, the MSU cadets had their shipboard training aboard together with a group of cadets of the Pacific Naval Institute named after Admiral S.O.Makarov. S.K.Vilkot and G.A.Voronin were their teachers. Now G.A.Voronin is Deputy Chief of the Center of Patriotic Education of the Maritime State University. Not very long ago the PNI cadets - participants of the circumnavigation defended their graduation projects and showed a high level of knowledge. One of them, Artyom Kolpashchikov was rewarded with a gold medal. The graduates say that the round-the-world voyage helped them to understand that their choice of a marine profession was correct.
G.A.Voronin was awarded with a letter of gratitude signed by rear-admiral E.A.Litvinenko, the PNI Chief, for his active participation in the cadets' shipboard training and personal contribution to the cadets' training.
