State University of New York Maritime College (SUNYMC)

Overview:

SUNY Maritime College has attracted broad recognition as a national leader in maritime education. U.S. News and World Report ranked its engineering programs among the best in the nation, and the Great Colleges for the Real World awarded Maritime College its exclusive five-star rating. The College has received U.S. Navy qualification to educate enlisted nuclear engineers, and it has been nationally recognized as an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) institution. Maritime College s graduating classes enjoy a 100% success rate in obtaining positions that garner higher than average salaries.

The oldest and largest maritime school in the country, SUNY Maritime College is a four-year college located at historic Fort Schuyler in Throggs Neck, New York. SUNY Maritime offers undergraduate degree programs in Engineering, Business Administration/Marine Transportation, Marine Environmental Science, Humanities, International Transportation and Trade, and a Master s degree in International Transportation Management. Maritime students pursuing their Coast Guard license participate in three Summer Sea Terms aboard Empire State VI and visit numerous international ports of call. SUNY Maritime College is home to the only Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) unit in New York City.

Enrollment reached a new high with 1289 for the fall, 2006 semester. Students can apply online today at www.sunymaritime.edu or contact the Admissions Office at: admissions@sunymaritime.edu or call: 718-409-7221.

Updates:

Maritime faculty has traditionally been heavily involved in transportation security issues. Given the current security-conscious climate around the world, it was determined that our students required a more formal offering in this area. A minor in Intermodal and Maritime Security, for both International Transportation and Trade and Marine Transportation students was approved by the faculty and implemented in fall 2006. Building on its tradition of preparing students for all aspects of international commerce, SUNY Maritime established a four-year degree program in transportation and trade. This is a program of excellence - students who declare themselves as ITT majors must maintain GPAs of 2.5 or higher. Another option open to good ITT students is a fast track 5 year program wherein students who maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher can substitute some graduate courses for senior requirements and be accepted in Maritime s graduate program.
