Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMST) was established on October 1 in 2003 through the merger of Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine (TUMM) and Tokyo University of Fisheries (TUF). The Faculty of Marine Technology, the immediate successor of TUMM, was built upon its 120 years of rich tradition and experience in education, while adjusting to the ever-changing needs of the maritime industry.
Our faculty comprises of three departments: Departments of Maritime Systems Engineering, Marine Electronics and Marine Engineering, and Logistics and Information Engineering. We offer unique, small-class, hands-on learning opportunities to about 180 undergraduate students recruited every year. Two license courses (deck and engine) are available for those interested in sea faring. Our graduates enjoy a high job placement rate (both sea and land jobs) and for those who have academic aspirations, our graduate school offers master and Ph.D. courses in maritime technology and logistics and in marine system engineering, among other marine related fields of expertise.
