The Fachhochschule Oldenburg /Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven (FH OOW) was founded in 2000 by merging the three northwestern Universities of Applied Sciences in Emden, Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. A wide range of courses is offered at five locations: Elsfleth, Emden, Leer, Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven.
The Maritime Department in Elsfleth was founded in 1832 as a Maritime Acadamy (Gro�herzogliche Navigationsschule) and became part of the Oldenburg University of Applied Sciences in 1971.
