2. Short Course Offered by Australian Maritime College: Advanced Liquefied Gas Tanker Operations

The objective of this course is to ensure that participants with immediate responsibility for cargo operations (as per IMO STCW V/3) gain a thorough understanding of safe pollution-free liquefied gas handling and transportation, are able to supervise and train other personnel in operational procedures. The course is intended for personnel with specific duties and responsibilities in connection with cargo and cargo equipment on liquefied gas tankers who have not served on board a liquefied gas tanker as part of the regular complement.

This course complies with the requirements of Section A-V/1, Paragraphs 2-7 and 23-34 of the International Convention on STCW 1978, as amended (STCW95) and is approved by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). It also meets the requirements of AMSA’s Marine Orders Part 3, issue 6, section C, paragraph 17.2.4. An Australian issued Tanker Familiarisation Course and current Advanced Fire Prevention Certificate are pre-requisite for this course.

The course duration is 28 hours (held over four days). An AMSA approved "Liquefied Gas Carrier Safety" Certificate is issued by the Australian Maritime College to participants who satisfactorily complete the course and meet the normal entry requirements.
