AUSTRALIAN MARITIME COLLEGE
Graduate opportunities with the Australian Maritime College

Australian Maritime CollegeToday the Australian Maritime College (AMC) is recognised as one of the world's best-equipped maritime education, training and research institutions. It has established a sound reputation for the provision of quality services to Australia's maritime and transport industries. In addition to its role as the national provider of maritime and logistics education, training and research, AMC is an international institution, attracting students from approximately 50 overseas countries. Its reputation is further enhanced by its membership in the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the International Association of Maritime Universities.

While the original role of providing a quality education for seafarers remains a significant function of AMC, growing activity in a wide range of maritime and logistics related areas has occurred. AMC offers courses from certificate to doctoral level, in a unique range of areas, including business management for organisations involved in the maritime and logistics industries; engineering; fisheries and ecology and maritime operations. AMC is committed to the continued development of flexible approaches to the delivery of courses, including distance education and on-line delivery.

Australian Maritime College

Many of AMC's courses are recognized by professional organisations, such as the Institution of Engineers (Australia) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, or industry bodies, such as the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). Close contact with industry ensures the relevance of AMC's programs. We have an exceptionally good graduate employment rate, with 100% of engineering graduates and 90% of business graduates employed within 3mths of finishing. And these graduates are very well paid - business graduates earn in excess if AUS$50,000 on average!

AMC Campuses
Australian Maritime College

AMC's has two main campuses. Newnham Campus, in Launceston, provides programs in maritime business and logistics, engineering and maritime operations. Programs in fisheries and ecology, marine resource management and vessel operations are delivered at Beauty Point, about 50km north of Launceston, near the mouth of the Tamar River.

Maritime Business

The Department of Maritime Business offers postgraduate and undergraduate programs. The Graduate School of Maritime Business offers the MBA (Maritime and Logistics Management), Graduate Diploma in Maritime and Logistics Management and Graduate Certificate in Maritime and Logistics Management. This forms a series of nested programs providing study in maritime and logistics management. It is frequently studied by seafarers as the ship to shore career pathway, and by managers seeking career advancement in maritime and logistics industries. These courses are all available by distance studies. Higher degrees by research (MPhil and PhD) are also offered through this Graduate School.

Australian Maritime College

The undergraduate program has two three-year degree programs (both with Honours) and also Advanced Diploma/Diploma and Certificate programs. The Honours year prepares students for further academic research at Masters and Doctoral level and, with managerial experience, is a sound basis for entry to the Master of Business Administration (MBA).

The Bachelor of Business (Maritime and Logistics Management) is aimed at people seeking to make a career in shipping, logistics, international business, port and terminal and freight-forwarding management. It is particularly useful for career development from ship to shore. The Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Technology Management) is designed to provide graduates with an appropriate blend of technology and management skills. These skills equip graduates for management careers within maritime and logistics technology-driven organisations. Other courses, such as the Advanced Diploma in Maritime Management, have been developed for those who are newer to the maritime and logistics industries, and those already in maritime transport who want a qualification that will give them both a theoretical and practical understanding of maritime business and logistics. These courses are also available by distance learning off-campus. For more information visit http://maritimebusiness.com.au or email mbuscoord@amc.edu.au
