Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (AMSMA) is the oldest higher educational institution in Russia, which trains the specialists for the shipping industry. The Academy is situated in St.-Petersburg, which is the cultural capital of the country. Creative groups of highly experienced scientists work at the faculties and scientific Chairs of the Academy. The educational program complies with the state educational standard of postgraduate education and is provided by a specified subdivision of the Academy - Postgraduate Department. All the entrants to the Postgraduate Course must have a higher education degree. The training is done according to individual programs, worked out in compliance with the theme of the dissertation, which is stated by the 6 directions listed above, and is completed with the Postgraduate Scientific Paper defense. The Postgraduate Scientific Paper is a completed scientific paper, aimed to the solving of a scientific problem having practical importance and scientific novelty.
The post-graduate students study modern research methods within the educational period. They have classes of a high theory level with the usage of modern mathematical modeling methods. Special courses on the applied mathematics are lectured involving lecturers from other educational institutions. Leading professionals of the shipping industry are invited to lecture on the applied issues.
The Academy's library as well as St. Petersburg Public Library, being one of the largest European libraries, is available to the postgraduates. The simulator complex is available as an experimentation bases. The post-graduates of the Academy take part in the Academy, city and international level conferences.
The Post Graduate Course lasts for 3 years for full-time candidates and for 4 years for part-time (correspondence) candidates. The fee for the Post Graduate Course is $3500 USA for full-time studying and $2500 USA for part-time studying correspondingly.
Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy also provides Doctor's Degree Course. That is the highest degree of the professional qualification. The candidates having a Candidate of Science Degree can be admitted to the Doctor's Degree Course. Doctor's Degree Course fee is $5,000 USA a year.
